What is it to see through a glass darkly? It is like reaching towards an obscured memory that evades us. The fleeting feeling during a mundane occurrence that something significant has shifted. A clouded message in a dream from a loved one who has passed. The impression that we are players in a not-yet-grasped drama unfolding around us. The temporary lifting of the veil in a near-death experience. The sensation, or hope, that this is not all.

What we see in the dark glass, the opaque mirror, are gilded reflections of another very present reality. The supernatural momentarily breaking through. The “kingdom of heaven” seeping into this earthly kingdom. Signs of a porous universe.

These personal images reference the human experience of looking into the dark glass, and the glimmers of God we find there. May you discover the hope hidden within your own “dark glass” experiences.
